A day labourer is a familar figure in our country. A day labourer is he who has no land of his own and earns his livelihood by working hard. He may work as a sweeper, a blacksmith, a mason, a carpenter, a goldsmith, a farmer and an earth digger. In the rural areas the land owners go to his house and employ him to work in their fields. A day labourer is very poor. He has no fixed income. He gets his wages on daily work basis. During the harvesting time he easily gets work. His wages also increases at this time. Most of the day labourers work in the land of rich people.A day labourer works from morning till evening and gets his wages. He gets wages if he can work. During rainy days the finds no work and he has to starve along with his family. He can hardly buy clothes or fancy things. In our country the life of a day-labourer is full of uncertainty and tension. He does not know whether he will get employment all the time. He lives in a hut and lives a sub human life. If he becomes sick, he along with his family starves. If he meets with an accident, he dies without treatment. Thus a day-labourer in our country leads an miserable.

বাংলা অর্থ: আমাদের দেশে দিনমজুর একজন পরিচিত ব্যক্তি। দিনমজুর হলো সেই ব্যক্তি যার নিজস্ব কোন জমি নেই এবং সে কঠোর পরিশ্রম করে জীবিকা নির্বাহ করে। সে ঝাড়ুদার, কামার, রাজমিস্ত্রি, কাঠমিস্ত্রি, স্বর্ণকার, কৃষক এবং মাটি খননকারী হিসেবে কাজ করতে পারে। গ্রামাঞ্চলে জমির মালিকরা তার বাড়িতে গিয়ে তাকে তাদের জমিতে কাজ করার জন্য নিয়োগ করে। একজন দিনমজুর খুবই দরিদ্র। তার কোন নির্দিষ্ট আয় নেই। সে প্রতিদিনের কাজের ভিত্তিতে তার মজুরি পায়। ফসল কাটার সময় সে সহজেই কাজ পায়। এই সময়ে তার মজুরিও বেড়ে যায়। বেশিরভাগ দিনমজুর ধনীদের জমিতে কাজ করে।

একজন দিনমজুর সকাল থেকে সন্ধ্যা পর্যন্ত কাজ করে তার মজুরি পায়। যদি সে কাজ করতে পারে তবে সে মজুরি পায়। বৃষ্টির দিনে কোন কাজ খুঁজে পায় না এবং তাকে তার পরিবার সহ অনাহারে থাকতে হয়। তার কাছে কাপড় বা বিলাসবহুল জিনিসপত্র কিনতে কষ্ট হয়। আমাদের দেশে একজন দিনমজুরের জীবন অনিশ্চয়তা এবং উত্তেজনায় ভরা। সে জানে না যে সে সারাক্ষণ চাকরি পাবে কিনা। সে একটি কুঁড়েঘরে থাকে এবং মানবেতর জীবনযাপন করে। অসুস্থ হলে সে তার পরিবার সহ অনাহারে থাকে। যদি সে দুর্ঘটনায় পড়ে, তবে সে বিনা চিকিৎসায় মারা যায়। এভাবে আমাদের দেশে একজন দিনমজুর দুর্বিষহ জীবনযাপন করে।

A day labourer is a person who leads his life by the sweat of his brow in various fields. He is healthy, strong and stout. He lives with his family in a slum and lives a subhuman life. He is usually employed in agricultural and construction work. He works from morning to evening according to the direction of his employed. He gets up early in the morning and goes out in search of work. In the evening he gets his wages. Then he goes to market, buys his daily necessaries and returns to his house.

He has both pleasures and pains. If he earns more, he gets pleasures. When he fails to do that, he gets pains. Sometimes he and his family go without food. The life of a day labourer is full sorrows and sufferings. In good or bad weather he has to work hard. He does not know what rest is. Though the service of a day labourer is great important, he does not his due respect. So we should have soft feeling for him so that he can lead decent life with dignity.
