The first day of Bangla year is called Pahela Baishakh. We celebrate it because it is a part of our culture and tradition. We hope that the new year will bring peace and happiness to our home. It is celebrated across the country with traditional festivities. The day's first programme begins at dawn at Ramna Batamul. The rural people arrange Baishaki Mela on this day. They also prepare delicious food. The shopkeepers open halkhata and offer sweets to their clients and customers. The urban people observe the day by holding cultural programmes.

They put on traditional dresses. Women wear white saree and men wear trousers and panjabi. People bring out colourful procession to welcome the day. They also carry placads, festoons, posters and banner. Different socio-cultural organisations arrange cultural function on this occasion. Pehela Baishaikh has great significance in our life. It is a source of pleasure and recreation. In short, it is a part of our tradition. The whole country wears a festive look on this day. People look cheerful. They exchange new years greeting.

বাংলা অর্থ: বাংলা বছরের প্রথম দিনকে পহেলা বৈশাখ বলা হয়। আমরা এটি উদযাপন করি কারণ এটি আমাদের সংস্কৃতি এবং ঐতিহ্যের একটি অংশ। আমরা আশা করি নতুন বছর আমাদের বাড়িতে শান্তি এবং সুখ নিয়ে আসবে। এটি সারা দেশে ঐতিহ্যবাহী উৎসবের মাধ্যমে পালিত হয়। দিনের প্রথম অনুষ্ঠান ভোরবেলা রমনা বটমূলে শুরু হয়। গ্রামীণ মানুষ এই দিনে বৈশাখী মেলার আয়োজন করে। তারা সুস্বাদু খাবারও তৈরি করে। দোকানদাররা হালখাতা খুলে তাদের খদ্দের এবং গ্রাহকদের মিষ্টি পরিবেশন করে। শহুরে মানুষ সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে দিনটি উদযাপন করে। 

তারা ঐতিহ্যবাহী পোশাক পরে। মহিলারা সাদা শাড়ি পরে এবং পুরুষরা প্যান্ট এবং পাঞ্জাবি পরে। দিনটিকে স্বাগত জানাতে মানুষ রঙিন মিছিল বের করে। তারা প্ল্যাকেড, ফেস্টুন, পোস্টার এবং ব্যানারও বহন করে। বিভিন্ন সামাজিক-সাংস্কৃতিক সংগঠন এই উপলক্ষে সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করে। পহেলা বৈশাখ আমাদের জীবনে অত্যন্ত তাৎপর্যপূর্ণ। এটি আনন্দ এবং বিনোদনের উৎস। সংক্ষেপে, এটি আমাদের ঐতিহ্যের একটি অংশ। এই দিনে পুরো দেশ উৎসবমুখর চেহারা ধারণ করে। মানুষ প্রফুল্ল দেখায়। তারা নতুন বছরের শুভেচ্ছা বিনিময় করে।

Bangladesh is a land of different cultures. A lot a festivals are held in this country around the year. Among these festivals, Pahela Baishakh is the most prominent common festival. It is celebrated on the first day of Bengali New Year. It is unique and distinctive festival to the people of all classes and all religions in Bangladesh. Pahela Baishakh has been being observed in our country for about 450 Years as traditional culture. The third Mughal emperor, Akbar was the first to introduce this custom in our country. 

Then, on that day, the tenants were invited to the house of the land lord and they used to pay their rents there. Today also this day is being observed with great, enthusiasm. The day is celebrated with traditional festivities across the country. It is a public holiday. Traders and shopkeepers open fresh account books (Hal Khata) and offer sweets to their customers and clients. The day's first Programme begins at dawn at Ramna Batamul. Chhayanat, a leading cultural organization organizes the programme. People wearing traditional dresses attend it. Besides, media and many socio-cultural organizations draw up different programmes. 

On this occasion, various types of fairs and exhibitions are held throughout the country-both in villages and towns. On this very day of Pahela Baishakh, we try to forget the sorrowful events, exhaustion, distress, and despondency of the previous year and welcome the New Year together in a zealous mood dreaming of a better future. We all stand on a common ground beyond any political belief. In fact, Pahela Baishakh brings in along with it - hopes and aspirations to our national life.

বাংলা অর্থ: বাংলাদেশ বিভিন্ন সংস্কৃতির দেশ। সারা বছর ধরে এই দেশে অনেক উৎসব পালিত হয়। এই উৎসবগুলির মধ্যে পহেলা বৈশাখ হল সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটি উৎসব। এটি বাংলা নববর্ষের প্রথম দিনে পালিত হয়। বাংলাদেশের সকল শ্রেণীর এবং সকল ধর্মের মানুষের কাছে এটি একটি অনন্য এবং স্বতন্ত্র উৎসব। আমাদের দেশে প্রায় ৪৫০ বছর ধরে ঐতিহ্যবাহী সংস্কৃতি হিসেবে পহেলা বৈশাখ পালিত হয়ে আসছে। তৃতীয় মুঘল সম্রাট আকবরই প্রথম আমাদের দেশে এই প্রথা চালু করেন।

তারপর থেকে, সেই দিন জমিদারের বাড়িতে আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হত এবং তারা সেখানে তাদের কর বা খাজনা পরিশোধ করত। আজও এই দিনটি অত্যন্ত উৎসাহের সাথে পালিত হচ্ছে। সারা দেশে ঐতিহ্যবাহী উৎসবের সাথে দিনটি পালিত হয়। এটি একটি সরকারি ছুটির দিন। ব্যবসায়ী এবং দোকানদাররা নতুন হাল খাতা (হিসাবপত্র) খোলেন এবং তাদের গ্রাহক এবং ক্লায়েন্টদের মিষ্টি বিতরণ করেন। দিনের প্রথম অনুষ্ঠানটি রমনা বটমূলে ভোরবেলা শুরু হয়। একটি শীর্ষস্থানীয় সাংস্কৃতিক সংগঠন ছায়ানট এই অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করে। ঐতিহ্যবাহী পোশাক পরিহিত লোকেরা এতে অংশগ্রহণ করে। এছাড়াও, মিডিয়া এবং অনেক সামাজিক-সাংস্কৃতিক সংগঠন বিভিন্ন অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করে।

এই উপলক্ষে, সারা দেশে - গ্রামে ও শহরে - বিভিন্ন ধরণের মেলা এবং প্রদর্শনী অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। পহেলা বৈশাখের এই দিনে, আমরা পূর্ববর্তী বছরের দুঃখজনক ঘটনা, ক্লান্তি, যন্ত্রণা এবং হতাশা ভুলে যাওয়ার চেষ্টা করি এবং একটি উন্নত ভবিষ্যতের স্বপ্ন দেখে উৎসাহী মেজাজে একসাথে নববর্ষকে স্বাগত জানাই। আমরা সকলেই যেকোনো রাজনৈতিক বিশ্বাসের ঊর্ধ্বে একটি সাধারণ ভিত্তির উপর দাঁড়িয়ে আছি। প্রকৃতপক্ষে, পহেলা বৈশাখ আমাদের জাতীয় জীবনে আশা এবং আকাঙ্ক্ষা নিয়ে আসে।
